Gail's Story

Life I earned my BS in Physical Ed. at WVU with a minor in spec. ed. I earned my MS in teaching the learning disabled at the Univ. of Iowa. After my marriage in 1983, I lived in NH and taught there. I attended college once again (while teaching) to earn a major in math. We moved outside Grand Rapids, Mi., where I have been teaching high school math for 20 years. I have two sons, 16 and 18. They are "typical" boys and I am very proud of them. My older is headed to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Az., on a soccer scholarship. He will major in Aeronautical Science with a career goal of flying in the Navy. My younger son has many talents, but hasn't decided yet where those talents should lead him. my sons since I have raised them on my own (by their father's choice) since 1993. This unexpected hand I was dealt gave me a confidence I never knew before. Once I got myself in gear, I became a very happy person, and tend to look on the bright side of things (no change there!). I have been published in a professional journal, and have been a trainer of teachers. At this point in time, I have limited myself to one presentation a year at either a local or state math conference. I love to travel, and try to go some place fun each year for Spring Break. As my sons move on, I will find myself traveling more. I keep things in perspective by going out to a leisurely dinner with friends and in the summer we walk in the mornings on a regular basis.
