Gale's Story
Life
I moved to Mansfield MA during my 5th grade year - back when the elementary school was beside the library and we went in 1/2 day shifts. I came from NC and it was hard to adjust - I got teased unmercifully about my accent and the fact that I said yes mam' and yes sir to the teachers, but I survived. I made some really good friends - in fact looking back through the lists of names I remember more of my middle school friends than I do my high school - funny huh? I moved from Mansfield in the 8th grade and we went back to NC, but only for a shortwhile...then back to MA we went- only this time I ended up in Ayer/Shirely where I went on to graduate. I kept contact with some of my close friends in Mansfield - they even went to my graduation. I married the summer between junior and senior year - much to my regret. After graduation I moved to El-Paso and lived there for a couple years - and that is where my daughter Jennifer was born. Then back to MA it was, my husband was in the military and was stationed at Devens. In 1978 I was diagnosed with cancer and stayed...Expand for more
in Boston's Hosp for Women for awhile. He got out of the military in 1980 and we moved to Greenville, SC - his hometown. Less than a year later he was gone and I was single mother. It was then that I went back to school to get my education. After various jobs, and some bad choices in life, I went to work for an attorney as an investigator and he encourged me to pursue a position in the insurance field, and that is where I am today. I am a claim specialist for State Farm, and have my CPCU, and will soon have my CLU. I have remarried (14 yrs now) and have a beautiful granddaughter. We are back in Greenville SC and travel as our jobs will allow. I have no intentions of moving again - I figure I have moved more than my fair share in my lifetime. My husband is from TN, and my greatest hope is to take him to Boston one day and let him see all the things I loved growing up.
This service has been great in that it has allowed me to get back in touch with friends I thought I had lost forever. There is just something about the bonds you make between friends as a child.
