Garland's Story
My my my how time has flown by! Well its me, Garland Ervin from the class of 1990! Its really amazing that we graduated so long it ago and yet it feels like yesterday. In all honesty, I must say that I had no intentions to keep in touch or do any reunions with the vast majority of you. I would like to thank the crush I had since 6th grade for changing my mind. (she went to Dogan MS, not saying any names LOL!!)
I looked at high school as four years that I needed to spend to get to where I was going. So I figured that I wouldn't see any of you when I got there. I had big plans back then that very few of you probably thought that I was capable of achieving. However as I look back in time, I realize that I cultivated many friendships that helped to make me who I am to this day. Those of you who knew me spent a lot of time laughing because I knew best how to cover my pain. Those of you who loved me knew that you had it coming back ten fold. by now that you are not God.
After leaving you guys I went to Grambling to further my education and continue to play football. Injuries didn't allow me to continue to play, but I did continue my education. I became a broadcast engineer and freelance production crewman. So instead of playing on Sundays I make sure that you see the games on Sundays!I'm now the GM and head of technical operations for a successful communications company, as well as the owner of my own production company. I've lived from coast to coast and traveled from pillar to post.
John Tyler HS gave me the confidence and the belief in myself to compete with anyone, anywhere at any given time. My teachers pushed and inspired me. My greatest successes and failures motivated me. My ears were always open to anyone and everyone. Cliques weren't my thing and still are not. So if you didn't know me then you were probably too busy to take the time to do so. And still I thank God for the time we shared. I wish all of you well.
