Roberto's Story

Since I left Camarillo, I gave it a shot at Ventura College but after one semester I joined the Air Force. I spent 29 1/2 years as an aircraft mechanic, supervisor, shop chief; and earned a promotion to Chief Master Sergeant. While on active duty we traveled to Japan (x2 for 7 years total); I traveled for temporary duty to England,S. Korea, Spain, Canada; I even got a chance to cross the Straight of Gibraltar and went across to Morocco. I retired from active duty and joined a small contracting firm that supports the test programs at Edwards AFB and have been with this company for eight years. Update: I have switched and now work for the Air Force as a full-time Civil Service employee. I still like what I'm doing in the defense of this great country. I married Deb (Debra Choate) and she traveled with me to Japan twice a...Expand for more
nd across the U.S. to Loring AFB, Maine. We were assigned to bases in California, Maine and Arkansas our last assignment was to Edwards AFB out there in the Antelope Valley. Deb and I have three children and they have now blessed us with five grandchildren. Our daughter worked for the government until she had her second child. Our youngest son joined the Air Force, he and his family have been stationed in England, Japan, and is currently in Alaska so we make excuses to travel where they get assigned, at least once. I did finish my degree (finally) with Embry-Riddle University after I retired. I still ride my motorcycle and periodically perform some work on it, after all it is a classic - 1978 Yamaha, XS1100. No,not an MC gang member, but I do ride with a base club of riders to local events and rides. Still having fun.

FYI: All SR-71 aircraft have been retired for at least 25 years to museums and static displays. The best one kept in top shape is at Wright-Patterson AFB in the USAF M
