Gary's Story
Hi everybody. Thanks for stopping by....Back in Chicago, new grandpa the 4th of July(2010) and again in June 2012. Two great kids. I own and operate a nursery, something I had dreamed about doing my entire adult life. My business is called - 'Your Growing Concerns' and is located in Campton Hills, IL., in and around Elgin, South Elgin and St Charles. It's all farming and horses out my way. I love being outside.....great customers, great neighbors and special friends.
It was nice going to the Grande Re-Union a couple of years ago in Tucson. I had not been back in 20 years or so since my mother died. It is still a special place and the Cholla Nation is special. You always wonder if people would remember some of the same memories.....and yes they do.
I am also an adjunct faculty instructing Sustainable Urban Agriculture at Triton Community College in River Grove IL. Instructing Online. God bless technology.......
Still listen to Uriah Heep thanks to Josh Sullivan. At my business Classic Rock is always on. Have not seen or heard of or from him. I loved the bon-fires at Brad's house and built an 8' diameter fire pit in his Honor. Every time I start a fire I think of Brad and everyone I knew from there.
The winters are getting old though. It's almost time to find a nice cozy cabin on a lake or river in Tennessee. Two military buddies and maybe a third have moved down there. I love driving through, the mountains remind me of Arizona's minus the 120* days.
My only question from my Cholla daze(days) is who was the girl in the Orange Bikini that I met on my last day in Arizona before I left for Air Force Basic Training in August of 73'? I had her best friend as a student in one of my AF Technical Training classes at Sheppard AFB also in 79/80'. It truly is a small world.
Friends from Cholla realize I was a transplant ...Expand for more
from up here my senior year. What some people don't know is when the family was moving to Tucson our U-Haul broke down just outside of Tucumcari New Mexico. That turned out to be an 8 hr ordeal waiting for a towtruck from Albq......Once we got the truck towed, my sister and I had to downsize our belongings in the parking lot to lesson the cost of the moving company.
Needless to say my sister's and my wedding gift to our mom and her new husband was discarded away and I heard the glass break as the box hit the ground. I got really pissed. We ended up bringing just enough clothes to get by until we got a place to live permanantly......Tha's why my senior yearbook pic had me in a long sleeve shirt and tie, which I had to go buy since all of our stuff was still in storage.
Along the ride from Albq to Tucson we stopped in Truth or Consequenses New Mexico.I was still pissed about the wedding gift getting tossed and I smarted off while we stopped for gas and my Mother backhanded me right across the face. I pretty much had enough and left the car and headed up into the mountains. I crossed the Rio Grande on a small rickety footbridge and I was gone. I got to the top of a mountain and saw absolutely nothing in any direction I looked except for the police car waiting for me at the edge of town. I was easy to spot, wearing a red shirt. My sister understood why I was so pissed but my mother never got it.
I really love Tucson. I have alot of respect for Coach Brown, who was like a step father to me. I and my sister did not get along with 'Bob', my 3rd father....
We all grow older and start to minimalize what we were going through but it all shapes us and who we become as the years go by. That was a short trip of my senior year, some good things happened too!!!!!
Thanks for stopping in. Hope you are having as much fun in life as I am.
