Gary's Story
Graduated in 1964. Fall 0f 1965 took a vacation to California to see Disneyland and a brand new exhibit, Universal Studio tour. Went over to Las Vegas where I ended up a bellhop in the Mint hotel. 4 months later quit and started for home and stopped off in Stateline, Lake Tahoe and ended up working as a changer in Harvey's wagon wheel Casino. Came home 5 months later when IRS caught up with me and I didn't wanted to go to jail or accept the draft. Back home I entered a welding apprenticeship and in 1967 I joined the RCMP and was shipped to Alberta after training. After 10 years doing general duties throughout Alberta, I became a law instructor at our training depot in Regina. Three years later I accepted a transfer to plain clothes work in Burnaby where, in 1981 I worked on the Clifford OLSON case.. After 5 years of Burnaby General Investigation Section I transferred to Vancouver Commercial Crime where I finished out my service. I ...Expand for more
retired and accepted a position of lead investigator with the Vancouver Stock Exchange where I was eventually promoted to Manager of registration. I was downsized when all the Canadian stock exchanges merged and the Toronto Stock Exchange became the main Canadian stock exchange. I fully retired for a whole six months when the RCMP came calling and offered me a position as Field Investigator doing background investigations for security clearances for RCMP employment. I live in Chilliwack with my second wife. I have 3 boys and a girl and 6 grandchildren. My oldest son is a Sgt. with the Surrey RCMP Serious crime section, another son works for the mining industry in Thailand and the youngest son is a truck driver for the movie industry in Vancouver. Daughter is a Social worker married to an IT person with the Abbotsford Police Department. All-in-all, I've had a good life with very few regrets = at least none that keep me awake at night.
