Gary's Story
I was born in Midland, Texas. Dad was in the Air Force, so we moved around. My brother was born in Tucson, Az. We also lived in Washington, Kansas, Nebraska and England. In 1958, we moved to the San Joaquin valley near Merced and in 1960, we moved to Riverside. Dad was stationed at March AFB. I met my future wife, Phyllis Knuttila on our last day of our Junior Year. I went to RCC and went into the Army in1967. I was stationed in Germany and then Texas and then VietNam in a Communication section for the 93rd Engineer Battalion in the Delta. Feb. 1971 and our daughter, Christie in April 1974. When I got out of the Army, i went back to RCC to get my AA and worked at a liquor store. I got held up at gun point one time. Then a friend got be into sporting goods. I did that for about 3 years. The next 37 years I spent in the Electrical Industry, mostly in the Wholesale end of the business. I worked every job there was and ended up as Operations Manager/Purchasing Agent for 32 of those years. We have 2 grand children. Phyllis and I both retired on Jan. 31, 2010. We travel whenever we can, sometimes with our travel trailer and sometimes without.
