"How quickly our lives are changed by one single incident. What began as a routine check-up transformed me from a giver to a receiver. My son was diagnosed with Cerebella Polycystic Astrocytoma- a brain tumor. With these words, life outside the hospital walls came to a screaming halt. As a mother, my only focus was on my son. Thankfully, the Sami Disharoon Brain Research Foundation steppped in to help tie up loose ends. They provided an extensive guide to services that would provide financial support that was critical to maintain "life" outside the hospital. It also enabled me to extend my time off from work and devote all my energy to my son. Additionally, they provided monetary support for rent. I am happy to say that this story ends well. My son is considered cured." -Kristen Johnson (2008) RC Football Alltime Player at Defensive End, 2 year unanamous all-league, first round first vote 1971&72 I enterted the US Navy in 1973 and honorably discharged from active duty in 1975. In boot camp I was a Platoon Leader in charge of 6 squad leaders (70 men) and marched them up and down the street all day in Great lakes ILL. While in the Navy I graduated from OS school (radar, radio & communications) and stationed on the USS Oklahoma City CLG-5 which was The Command ship of the Seventh Fleet out of Japan. I spent 5 weeks in the Operation Homecoming -Vietnam, active duty 2yrs & was in the reserves until 1979 and honorably discharged from both. I used the GI Bill to get my first College degree from SRJC (AS Electronics-honors). While attending SRJC I was assistent Womens Fastpitch Softball coach with Marv Mays and was part of the alumni staff and still good friends with the staff. PG&E hired me on a week after graduating and went through their 3 year state approved Telecom Technician Apprenticeship. I left PG&E after 10 years and have a monthly retirment to cash in as early as 55. I got married 23 years ago. Bought a new house 21 years ago (stiil own) in Cotati across from John & Marci Ostrand (Marci Hutchinson). I have a second college degree as a computer Programmer from the Computer Science dept of SRJC. In 05/15/05 graduated from a tech academy & recieved CCNA certification. I had 2 children (Sami Disharoon passed away in my arms from Brain Cancer at the age of 9 years old.) and Alexandra Disharoon (both girls). She is 13 years young.
