Gary's Story
Amazing that I have been retired for over 10 years. I thought about returning to work, even applied for one, but the thought of getting up early and not getting an afternoon nap killed that idea. I still volunteer for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to several ladies in their mid-90’s. They always have a little fix-it project for me. They share tidbits of their history with me every week. Fun to hear. They are like family. I also give rides to seniors for doctor appointments, with a few favorites. I tried to get a program going to take seniors in different locations shopping for groceries each week as a group. I have found that they either need walkers or cannot see well enough to shop so that has been a struggle. Not enough volunteer drivers either. I try to volunteer at different events through the year to help those who are struggling. I still try to fish with more trips to the coast for rockfish and crab. Our two dogs stare me down each morning until they get their walk. My diabetes and arthritis is starting to control how much I can walk. Surgery on my foot soon will hopefully help. ng my doctor to help me figure out why my breathing has always been a problem. Can remember back to 8th grade having problems. At least so far tests say my heart is ok. Lungs are next. With hassles of flying my desire for travel has dwindled. I bought a new tent I can actually stand in and don’t have to crawl into, plus a cot so I don’t have sleep in the ground. I hope to try out in May by Bridgeport when I volunteer to help cancer patients have a few days of fly fishing. The on to camping through the summer and fall. I hope my fur balls will cooperate with me. The family gets some new windmills in the Altamont ranch in June. Hopefully they work and the birds can avoid them. It will be fun to hike around the property to really see it since I was a kid. I have gotten into kayaking more these days, although when I fish in lakes I cheat and use a electric trolling motor. I still do my own projects around the house but I only work mornings. Still can’t find helpers I trust.
Hope everyone is still healthy and staying active. I have a mother-in-law who is 96 and still driving and active. A good role model.
