Gary's Story

Life Hi everyone! I'm now living in Tacoma, WA, about 50 miles from Seattle. You may wonder how I ended up in the evergreen state. Well, after High School I earned a BA in Biology at CSU Fullerton. As this did not really lead to a career, I next studied X-ray at Cypress College. It is there that I met my wife, Debbie. I moved to Las Vegas in 1988 to study nuclear medicine at UNLV, receiving a BS degree in 1991. From there I went to graduate school at the University of Washington, and earned my MS degree in 1994. Education from Hawaii Pacific University last year, and is currently working as a Special Education Teacher. I was forced to retire after working as a radiologic technologist for 40 years, specializing in CAT scan. I had a heart attack in August 2020. I subsequently had a heart transplant that October and spent 3 months in the hospital. My recovery was complicated, and took nearly two years. I have literally bounced back from the brink of death! I discovered some years ago that I am not the only '73 alumnus in Washington state! Liz [Verduzco] Crouch lives a few hours away and we have gotten together with her and her husband numerous times. I look forward to hearing from other members of the Savanna class of 1973.
