MORE OF GARY'S STORY
One of Gary's favorite quotes is:""Life is what happens while you are planning something else".".
I came from a VERY modest economic past. Every opportunity I sought came hard and with much effort. Many people…probably in the thousands...helped me advance in my life’s goals. I’ve been blessed with good fortune. I never quit or gave up in the face of what I perceived as barriers. I don’t apologize for the ideals I’m about to espouse. My life’s experience, in and out of government, working around the globe, formed my ideals for a better pathway to continued American strength and security.
I am a moderate conservative. I love America and believe it is the greatest country on the planet. We are a beacon to the many who seek a safer, more prosperous and healthy future. I seek team work and persons who will unite to promote a unified national way ahead in order to solve problems. I particularly dislike political sour grapes and grudges. The cards we're dealt may not look good. But, we can all can dive in for the greater good to work for a better hand—“Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” I believe we should not walk by a problem. Finger pointing and scapegoating are cop outs to taking responsibility. Above all, high integrity must be the norm of the day.
I champion free enterprise, public education, the arts and sciences in balance, the family as the fundamental care unit for our people, SMALL national government, and state’s rights. We all can do much more to provide food, shelter, and medical attention to the less fortunate. Don't saddle the national government to do that as a primary role. As humans we're extremely cruel to each other, especi...Expand for more
ally to children. Let's help and guardian children who otherwise are helpless and at the mercy of people who would do them harm. I detest genocide. Bullying, brutality, and sexual harassment must all be quelled, then eradicated from our culture.
I believe in individuals. They provide the key to our continued existence as humans on earth, and for America as a viable, great nation. However, persons who promote government as a job…a career…instead of their civic privilege to national service for We the People make government fat, overbearing, intrusive and too costly.
Our personal and national freedoms must be defended using, in unison, all our elements of national security power. History shows that we unabashedly fight for “mom and apple pie”… that’s our ideal. Our power elements must be kept strong. We the People must understand the moral obligation to use power albeit wisely to defend and advance America and allies.
I have and will work to reconstitute free enterprise as our nation’s economic backbone, especially regarding small businesses. Businesses, large and small, and those who own and run them are the engines of democracy. They create the thrust that powers job creation—the sustenance and meaning for our population. It’s imperative as a powerful hand up for Americans that we support relevant policies and cultural norms that enable viable, 21st Century businesses to flourish.
Our nation has enough wherewithal to adequately help those who are truly indigenous poor or otherwise helpless. I am empathetic to help those who lack the physical, mental and spiritual ability to move forward without help. Those are the people each of us as individuals in this great country must get off our duffs to help make good things happen. The government has never run business very well, especially in the realm of daily help for disadvantaged people. I think tax and spend takes money out of people's pockets and actually creates the welfare culture we want to escape. I believe in this stead that a welfare culture actually promotes the power of a political party (and its leaders) over the people.
I believe in individual effort and the unity of a rich, diverse population to help achieve the level each individual seeks to attain. Dr. King, Lombardi, as well as Presidents Lincoln, JFK and Regan (to name a few) had it about right regarding eliminating discrimination, the importance of an individual work ethic, personal integrity, economic advantage of this nation, and a populous culture of selfless service.
