Gary's Story

Life Comptroller for a UniMac Distributor in Everett, Washington. Born in Seattle, lived in Seattle, Bellingham, Mountlake Terrace, Moses Lake, Renton, Rapid City, S.D. and Sidney, NB. This covers the first eighteen years of my life. Moved to Kent, WA in late 1964. Changed name to legal guardian's, Robert Lyle Kelly in 1965. Served in Viet Nam in the Navy as an electronic technician. Two tours in Viet Nam, aboard a LST-Pulaski County, LST1088 and the USS Towers, DDG-9. After the Navy, attended Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Washington where I received my BA in elementary education. While at Western lived in Kappa (first co-ed dorm) and Birham Wood. After graduating in March of 1972, went to work for The Boeing Company where I worked in the defense side of the company in Quality Assurance and Finance. Married a woman that had two children then presented me with a daughter of our own. Divorced after seventeen years. Left Boeing after twenty-three years to work as the comptroller for Washington Automated. I am still employed at this company and love my job. Live in Mukilteo, Washington, which is on Puget Sound, twenty-six miles north of Seattle. Have a over thirty year old daughter whom presented me with my first grandson, Ethan Daniel in November 2004, and raised two other children from a previous marriage. I like sports, especially baseball. The Seattle Mariners are my favorite team. I also am a huge University of Washington (DAWG) football fan. I use to run, participating in many 5K and 10K events. Ran in the 12K Bloomsday race three times. The last time I finished just under an hour. Not real good, but not too bad for an older guy like myself. I have been fortunate to be able to travel a lot the last few years. Retirement is a few years off, yet I am in a job that allows me to get away practically anytime I want. I am in that period of my life w...Expand for more
here I have an urge to connect with friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, most everyone I contact does not remember me. Maybe Debbie at Western was correct in calling me "Who" but have better esteen than that to stop me. So, if upon reading this you think you knew me, please contact me as I would love to rekindle old acquaintances. Thank you. P.S. Presently semi-retired but am looking for work as I would like to work at least to age seventy (am not drawing my Social Security yet because how can you beat an 8% annual increase). and since I am in good health (for a sixty-seven year old), this goal is very attainable. Now have two (2) grandchildren, ages six and nine. My daughter lives in Escondido, CA and is married to a Navy Chief Petty Officer (nineteen years). He was only a Seaman Apprentice when the married so I am very proud of him. Married for over two years to my partner of thirteen years (Marianne) who is a RN and is from Buffalo, NY. Still reside in Mukilteo, WA which is a small community on Puget Sound (we have a view of the water) that is located twenty-six miles northh of Seattle (GO SEAHAWKS!). Love baseball and root for the Mariners but that has been frustrating as they have never been to the World Series even though they have had Ken Griffey, JR. Randy Johnson, Alex Rodrique and others and tied a major league record (with the Cubs and if it was not for the Cubs I would be even more frustrated as they lose more and have been pereninal losers for many more years than the Mariners. Love to travel, read, work in the yard, and both watch and keep track of sports and of course root for all my local teams including the University of Washington Huskies (GO DAWGS!). Military Served on the USS Towers, DDG-9. Towers served as an escort to the battleship USS New Jersey during the 1968-69 time period. My first tour in Viet Nam was aboard the LST Pulaski County, 1088.
