Gary's Story
First I have to say that at the start of my Senior year, I made the biggest mistake of my life ! And I considered it to have been, unforgivable . I convinced myself she would have thrown an apology in my face and that she hated me as much as I did . I was therefore in a state of shock when she asked me to sign her yearbook ! I almost wrote "Please Forgive Me" ! I wish that I had , as I wanted a second chance. But I knew I didn't deserve one . My life after High School appears divided into 15 year segments . From '65 to '80, I married and divorced twice. I have a beauiful daughter from each marriage. I worked for several companies in Orange County, plating fastners for aircraft. But I must say the best job was order filling, at the Thrifty Drug Warehouse. We had lively games of 500 Bridge at lunch, formed our own flag football ...Expand for more
league and some of us joined the Anaheim Slow-Pitch program. We did work mind you , but it was really a great time.
With my parent's and my oldest daughter moving to Virginia in 1980, and my youngest moving to Texas, I felt I had to move as well. I ended up in Dallas/Ft. Worth and went to work as a drywall finisher. It turns out that I developed some skill at this trade, but construction accidents have a way of making you pay a heavy price later . At this time I met Rae, who gave me a son and although she married someone else, we remain on good terms.
In late '93 I moved to Roanoke, Va. (my ancestral home) and went to work as a Security Guard. Absolutely no financial rewards to this line of work, but the 220 workers at my site make it all bareable .
I have to say I feel Blessed to have had the best Family, neighbors, friends, teachers and co-workers that anyone could hope for !
