Gary's Story

Life Hey! I just thought I'd write a few lines here and attempt to say a few things about me, and then see what happens! Life has been an adventure of the the past 15 - 20 - 30 - 40 something years, and always new things on the horizon. I've lived, worked, and gone to school in many different places, from small communities and towns in Virginia, to the farmland in Illinois, to the streets and caverns of New York City, and points beyond and in between. I was married, now divorced (for 17ish yrs now - wow - time flies!) - and now unattached! :) My daughter from my marriage is such a great person, and I really love spending a great time with her, with what little time we have together. I'm currently living and working in Northern VA. I do some traveling, exploring, relaxing, and am just plain enjoying life! I love the outdoors and doing things like hiking, camping, fishing, skiing, etc. And as a Hokie, I support anything related to Virginia Tech - including football - Go Hokies! :) I also occasionally do volunteer work at the National Park as an interpreter. My daughter is now in college out in California, and loves it (for now! :) ) We see each other rarely now, but...we fit it in over the year, keep in touch regularly, and are still close. I like being active, but also like taking time to stop and appreciate the little things, and learning new things. So, I'm here to connect with past friends, aquaintances, co-workers, and others I have had contact with over the years - some have influenced me (or vice versa), some are long-lost friends I'd ...Expand for more
like to reconnect with, and some are people who I remember, but may not remember me, but I'm just wondering where life has taken them ...; and, I'm also here to maybe make new friends! :) So, send a note!! School Grew up a Navy Brat, so, I went to many schools! 1st and part of 2nd grade in Dunoon, Scotland. Once we moved back to the States, I finished the 2nd grade year at an Elementary school in Arlington, VA. We then moved to Fairfax, VA and I went to John C. Wood Elementary School 3rd - 6th Grade (1966-1970). In the summer of 1970 we moved to Poquoson, VA and I went to 7th-10th grade in Poquoson, at Poquoson High School. In the summer of 1974 we moved to Brooklyn, NY, for my Jr and Sr years in HS - at Fort Hamilton High School (a city public high school; not a military base H.S.) in Brooklyn, NY. I graduated HS in 1976.... then...on to college! College From my H.S. graduation in Brooklyn, NY, I was "desperate" to get out and back to Virginia; So...I ended up at Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA from Fall 1976 through the Spring of 1978. I then transferred to Virginia Tech (THE University of Virginia...NOT that one in Charlottesville...*wink laugh*) and was there from Fall of 1978 through the Fall of 1980. I graduated in December of 1980 with a BS Degree in Forestry and Wildlife. Workplace Virginia Department of Forestry: Sandston, VA 12/81-07/82; Orange, VA 7/82-6/83; Portsmouth, VA 6/83-2/84; Montross, VA 2/84-1/89. Virginia Cooperative Extension: King George County, VA 1/89-6/95. US Department of Agriculture: Manassas, VA 6/95-Present
