Gary's Story
..for those who are curious...
After HS I went to Hofstra University to study engineering. In 76 I decided to open a printing business with my father in Port Washington on the North Shore of LI. I continued to go to college mostly at night and worked in the business whenever I could. Then in 1977 my dad developed heart problems and could no longer work full time in the shop. I took over the day to day operation of the business. Today we at Castlerock Printing are celebrating our 34th year in business.
I met my wife Karen in 1980 and we married in '81. We cut back on a big wedding and honeymoon and opted to buy a house with the money we saved. Three major renovations later and 29 years, we're still in the same house. I have 2 daughters both now in their early 20's. My oldest, Catherine, is a medical assistant in an OB-GYN office. gether at Castlerock. While many can't understand that a husband and wife can be around each other 24/7, for us it works. (At least most of the time, lol) Karen always says that we're not going on 30 years of marriage but more like 60. I think she's right. We've also had some difficult times. Both our parents are gone now. Between both our mothers we spent close to 5 continuous years in and around hospitals and nursing homes. If fact my mother was in and out of the hospital 17 time, her final 18 months. I'm sure others have had to deal with there own hardships and my sympathies go out to those who have endured.
We look forward to our retirement in about 10 years, god willing we still have our health, and see where that leads us. We have a place in Naples Florida which is nice for a getaway once and a while. Oh.. and should my wife ever read this... there is NO way I'm retiring down there.
