Gary's Story
Upon graduation from The Abbey School in 1963, I attended The University of New Mexico for 2 years. Wasn't too impressed so I got a part-time job repairing and installing X-Ray machines in hospitals and Doctor's offices in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. My schooling at UNM kept getting in the way of my part-time job so in 1966 I got a job with Continental Airlines in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I also joined the New Mexico Air National Guard and worked in the AGE (Ground Power) shop. Fell in "love" and got married to my wife Sue in 1967. When the Pueblo was kidnapped by the Koreans in 1968, my Guard unit was activated and I was sent to Viet Nam for 12 months. Upon my return from Viet Nam, I had enough active duty time to be put on the Inactive Reserve list. There was an opportunity for a promotion at my job with Continental Airlines but required me to move to the Los Angeles area. So, we packed...Expand for more
up and moved. I worked for Continental for 32 years and we lived in Honolulu, Chicago, San Francisco (twice), El Paso and finally in 1984 we moved one last time to Houston, Texas - our present home. I retired from Continental Airlines and went to work at ExpressJet Airlines as the Dangerous Goods Specialist and I conduct training classes on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (HAZMAT) by Air for all of the ExpressJet employees. My wife, Sue, and I have been married for 45 years and are still in "Love". Sue just retired (Dec. 31st, 2011) after 23 years at Continental Airlines and is enjoying retirement very much. She keeps after me to retire so we can do some traveling. Might not be a bad idea.
Well, I did retire in January 2018 and I have found that retirement is not a bad idea!! We have made some very nice road trips in the U.S. to see places we had wanted to visit but never had the time.
