Gary's Story

My Life Phase 1 (Infant to Toddler) : Born on the West (French) Side of town. Moved to the East (so-called better) Side at age 5. Phase 2 (Toddler to Pre-Teen) : "I was a poor black child" from the west side who moved to the East side only to have 8 years of a great neighborhood & friends demolished to put in a fricken gas station. It's still there on Bridge & Maple. They took out 3 three story tenaments (6 apartments each), 3 very large houses & a church. That's 22 families & a church. We all had our lives up-ended in the name of greed (... I mean - - progress). Never to be forgiven ! Two years into moving there I started spending my entire summers at a campground in Barrington, NH; mid-May through late-September for 12 consectutive year. I fell in love with water skiing. I did it almost every day for 3 cosecutive months. Around year 9 the place got sold to this curmudgeon who immediately started kicking families out for any reason he could come up with. Up-ending the lives of over seventy five families in the name of greed. But those previous 9 summers where the absolute best that "a poor black child" could hope for. Ahhhh, what good memories. And then the hammer of greed came smashing down again. That guy initiated my "List of people that have my expressed perrmission to leave the planet". It's a short list of 3, but he remains at the top to this day. There's no chance these three could make up for the damage they caused to those in my life and me. Man, that felt gooooood to express that once again! Phase 3 (pre-Teen to Late teens) : I moved to a cooler house in a lousier part of town. Finished grammar school at St. Joseph's. Attended Central High and in my sophmore year found girls and shortly there after found marajauna. Life hasn't been as easy since. Artificially more fun from time to time but unfruitful. Phase 4 (Late teens to Mid-Adulthood) : I lived my life in & around the the Navy. It was greuling, but I made it to retirement However, I did get to see the world as promised. ================================= Through the Navy I was able to see: Tennessee: Millington/Memphis, Tenn. Laguna. Washington: Bremerton, Tracyton, Silverdale, Bangor, Poulsbo, Seabeck, Gorst, Manchester,Port Orchard, Gig Harbor, Tacoma, Seattle, Kent, Kirkland, Everett, Redmond, Port Townsend, Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor (3 years). Working for LT. Senior Chief Curmudgeon who ruined my chaces at ever again advancing in the Navy ================================= Phase 5 (Mid-Adulthood to Late Adulthood) : Presently I'm sitting around managing my business properties; providing housing for the mentally disabled while Uncle Sam pays all the bills for each facility. Hopefuly I'll only get to see the next two of the three remaining phases in life. Next comes the: "Not so old and still adventurous" phase. Then the "Old & Alert but not so happy phase" and lastly the DNR (Do Not Resussitate) me phase of "Old & Decrepid". My first job was at Service Merchandisers, where I got paid $1.78 an hour to stock and unstock shelves full of "crap". What I remember most about it is the time I was up inside some storage shelf clearing it out and threw out a small wooden part; and, as luck would have it, the big boss walked by. I missed his head by 2 inches. Needless to say, I didn't get to work there much longer.. It was beautiful summer day on the lake. I was in my boat with my girl friend Dawn. We were looking for Scott. We had driven across the lake to his house to find that he had left to get gas for his boat. We went back out on the lake and headed for the gas station. Shure enough, we saw him down the lake heading our way. (That's the set up.) Being immature teens, we headed towards each other at full speed. (Here it comes. Can you picture it.) Boating rules say to turn right when this happens. However, if I turned right I would have run aground. So I turned left. But it was too late. ...by the way, boating rules also say that you should throttle down. But we were indestructible teens, so that never entered our heads. We almost made it. We hit side to side. The force of the crash sent me up and over Scott's boat and my girl friend into the rearview mirror and then down under the dashboard. MAN, THAT SUCKED. But our time at the hospital was fun and memorable. For the rest of that summer and the next, I was called :Peg Leg due to my injured leg.
