Gary's Story
Life
I live on Long Island in New York at this time. I am separated at this time. I have 3 older kids, Danielle Elizabeth Richard 28 , Michael A.Richard 24, and Douglas J. Richard 22. I am in the US. ARMY stationed here in New York at FT.Totten. I have been in the Army for 27 years and hope to retire next year. I was in Iraq for 14 months ,got back home April 2005. My father is deceased. My mother lives in SC. My one brother Clifton Richard still lives in Hollywood,Fla. my youngest brother Kevin Richard lives in SC and my sister Lynn Marie Gills lives inTexas. I became a grandfather on June 15, 2006. I have a beautiful granddaughter Alyssa Michelle Richard. I hung out with Richard Oltmans, James Lejedahl, Rick Soverns, Michael Anderson, and Fred Lutz during my years at Hills.I have seen the world. I have also worked in the Law Enforcement field for 9 years prior to returning to the military. I always enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, camping, visiting Light houses,and Historical Sites.I coached soccer for over 14 years including having my sons on my teams. I also coached High School Soccer while stationed ion Arkansas. I also coached Little league baseball, football. I know I am missing more , but will finish later. I really enjoy reading history particular the time period during the Civil War. Lately I have become interested in the American Revolution. Military
I joined the Army the first time in 1971 and was discharged in 1974. I stayed away from the military until 1980 when i joined the Fla Army National Guard , only stayed a year in the guard. I then joined the Army Reserves in 1981 and was with the 7/9th FA BN in FT.Lauderdale, I then came back on Active duty in 1986 and have been in the Army since. I took Basic training at FT.Jackson,SC in 1971-Feb 1972. I went to FT.Devens,Mass for Intelligence school and then to FT.Benning, Ga for Infantry school. I was stationed at FT Meyer,VA with the Old Guard, Germany and FT.Dix,NJ during my first tour of duty. I then went to Field Artillery school in 1981. I have been stationed at FT.Sill,OK, FT.Leonard Wood, MO, Beckley, WV, Little Rock AFB,AR, FT.Jackson, SC, was assigned as a US Army Recruiter for 3 years with the NYC Recruiting BN, then Stationed at FT.Totten,NY I also was in Puerto Rico with the 266th Ord Co as a Platoon Sgt ;then was deployed to Iraq, with a month stop in Kuwait first. I was in Balad, Falujiha, and then in Nasireyha in Iraq. While in Iraq i was a platoon SGT and we did Convoy escorts . I came back to the great USA in April 2005 and then back to FT.Totten. Almost forgot I also went to many schools while in the Army at FT.McCoy,WI , FT.Campbell,KY, FT.Chaffee,AR, Atlanta,Ga, Ft.Hood,TX, FT.Meade,MD, and FT.Drum, NY.
