Gary's Story

Where to start? Well out of high school I moved to Chico and basically hung out until I went into the Navy, June of '78.My time in the Navy was spent working on the E2C aircraft for the VAW 121 squadron attached to the carrier CVN69 Dwight D Eisenhower. About a year into this I met a girl, we were married and had a son. Unfortunately both my marriage and Navy career ended 4 years later. After leaving the Navy I found myself in Southern California where I couldn't find a job in the aircraft industry (yeah I was one of those that joined the Navy to work on planes) so I ended up driving truck for about a year. I was able to eventually find my way into the aircraft industry, working for Rockwell Internatonal building the space shuttle. From there I moved to Rockwell's B-1-B Division in Palmdale, California. After a few years there the contract was winding down so I moved down the street to Northrup Gruman working on the B-2. During all this I again met a wonderful lady, we married and added 3 kids (2 boys and a girl) to my new step son which she brought to the relationship. Once again though for a variety of reasons I found myself without a wife. Not to worry, I again became involved with a lady which after we married gave me a step-daughter and step-son. Things began slowing down at Northrup and I found myself doing what I said I would never do...I moved back to Rio Vista. Worked a short time for my brother-in-law (I would advise everyone not to work for fanmily, especially on a start up business) then was hired as the Superint...Expand for more
endent for the Ryer Island Reclamation District. The pay sucked, but the job provided me with allot of latitude and I was able to be very involved in my kids lives. Each of them were involved in sports, pretty much year round, which kept us hopping. Some years later we learned of a job opportunity back in the aircraft industry (both my wife and I worked on aircraft) in North Carolina near where my wife was from. Moved to NC in Nov 1999. The job was very satisfying but the company was bought out by a larger one which drove us into the ground finanacially. We were both laid off. I was able to find a job with American Power Conversion (APC)as a field engineer working on uninteruptible pwer supplies. My wife was able to finish up schooling and passed here boards as an RN, going to work at a local hospital. As seems to be the theme of my life, that marraige fell apart a little over 2 years ago. I found another job with APC which landed me in Rhode Island where I have been since August 2007. RI is a far cry different from anywhere else I have every lived though I am kind of liking the disticnt 4 seasons. The downside is my riding season for my motorcycle is somewhat less than it was in NC or what it would be in CA. Well, as you can see I have loved and lost several times though I would not have traded any of those times away. I was recently introduced to facebook and have been having fun with it as it turns out to be a great tool for networking and finding old friends. Look me up if you get a chance.
