More about Gary:"In 1998 the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition through the Citizenship Education Fund launched the Automotive Project to ensure and promote full and equal participation in the economic growth of the global automotive industry for people of color and women. At the 12th Annual Auto Industry Summit Gary O. Shelton Consulting, after a national search, was recruited to develop strategy for Rainbow PUSH’s new initiative to help Tier 1 suppliers improve their minority supplier development programs.
Gary O. Shelton provides support to major national companies in the area of supplier excellence-diversity. Mr. Shelton works very closely with his clients to customize the development of the program to fit the client’s unique needs. Also, Mr. Shelton has the ability to present the business case of why supplier diversity makes sense. These services can be used to start a new program or expand an existing program. serial entrepreneur; recently formed a collaboration with PerformanceAscent and Coastline Community College Institute for Economic Development to help corporations reduce cost, increase cash flow, margins, speed to market, and profit by improving supplier performance. Mr. Shelton currently is a principal in two startups. Near Infrared Imaging, in a joint venture with UCLA's School of Medicine, will develop and manufacture a “malignant cancer detecting” and “head injury detecting”non-invasive, portable to the patient, handheld, radiation free, inexpensive camera/scanner able to detect bleeding in the brain and malignant tumors in “real time”. Rethink Green, Inc. presents an environmentally sensitive method to divert approximately 20 million pounds of carpet from landfills every year and capture 1 million gallons of oil and 1.2 million pounds of carbon black while simultaneously generating renewable energy to power the facility and feed into the grid.
Mr. Shelton started his first business at age twenty one; has won and fulfilled over one hundred twenty million dollars ($120,000,000) in contracts with Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Lamborghini, Chevron, Shell, Arco, Coca Cola, FTD, Kmart, Macy's, Warner Brothers, Department of Defense, White House, Camp David, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Michigan State Housing Development Authority, State Of Michigan, and City Of Detroit.
Relevant Experience
• Gary is a senior business development executive/consultant with experience in multi-million dollar venture planning, debt and equity financing, strategic partnering and carefully coordinated rapid-growth/rollout.
• Formulated, evaluated and closed investments, contracts, credit lines and SBA/bank lending totaling $208 million.
• Developed affinity marketing strategy as joint-venture partner for only facilities-based, minority-owned telephone company in the United States. Provisioned secure telephone lines for the White House, Camp David and Department of Defense.
• Played key role in leveraged buyout of electrical engineering business that fulfilled $20 million a year in automobile industry contracts with Ford, Chrysler and General Motors
• Raised funds on behalf of Obama/Biden Campaign and 98 charitable organizations including Heritage Foundation, Democratic National Committee, American Cancer Society, Greenpeace, Metropolitan Museum of Arts and Jane Goodall Institute.
