Gary's Story
Through a somewhat circuitous route, I received my Ph.D. in Speech-Communication (University of Minnesota). My first teaching job was at Wayne State University (Detroit). Given the job market at the time, I ended up leaving my field and, instead, taught Marketing in a Business School. I stayed there for one year and then went to Suffolk University (Boston) for one year. Then I went to Baruch College/City University of New York in Manhattan, and remained there for the rest of my academic career. Of course, I got tenure, full Professorship, and was department chair for nine years....Expand for more
At 62, I decided to retire. My partner (now husband) of 20 years was not interested in living in Santa Fe, and I was very ambivalent about Santa Fe. Santa Fe is rather expensive, precious, and I really prefer the terrain in the Eastern US. So we retired to Asheville, NC. Asheville is a very liberal community surrounded by the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Its biggest attraction is the Biltmore Estate. I am very happy to be retired. I miss New York a great deal, but it is simply unaffordable.
We have two dogs: Christopher, a French Bulldog, and Ben, a Puggle (Pug/Beagle).
