Gary's Story

Gary is from Ontario, California. He is married with Cheryl Sumner. His schools include Granada Hills High School. He later attended Sierra College. He works(ed) at Enjoying Retirement, PT&T/Pacific Bell/SBC/AT&T, US Navy Seabees. After Graduation in 1964, I worked as a Box Boy at Hughes Market. I had joined the Naval Reserve in 1963, while in my senior year. In August 1965, I was called to active duty, where I attended Construction Electrician "A" School at Port Hueneme. Then I was attached to MCB 4 of the Navy Seabees, and went to Chu Lai, Vietnam, where I was a CE (Construction Electrician). While there, I worked on building, and maintaining the Marine air base and running the generator shack at Camp Shields. When I returned home, in August 1966, I married my sweetheart, Cheryl Benton. We lived off base in Oxnard until January 1967, when I went back to Chu Lai with MCB 8 as a CEP3 (P standing for Power). In July of that year, I returned home for separation from active duty and went to work for Pacific Telephone as a Lineman, and worked in downtown L.A.. In 1972, I transferred to Yuba City, in northern California, where I worked as a Cable Splicer until 1973, when I transferred to Auburn. Then in 1976, I transferred to Grass Valley, where I remained as a Cable Splicer until I retired near the end of 2006. Cheryl & I have a daughter, Lori, who gave us 5 beautiful grandchildren, a boy and 4 girls. We also have a son, Steve, who gave us another grandson. With the exception of one granddaughter, who is attending college in Missouri, all live in the local area. We love living in the historic California Gold Rush town of Nevada City. In 2006 Hallmark filmed the movie, "The Christmas Card" in Nevada City, which is shown several...Expand for more
times on the Hallmark Channel every Christmas. I was surprised they used the real names of Nevada City and Grass Valley in the movie. nevadacitychamber.com/nevada-city-photos-and-videos/the-christmas-card/ We are now enjoying our retirement years in the beautiful Sierra Foothills, where we live in the forest at 3500', where we get seasonal snow every year. Gary's interests include Ham Radio (call sign W6FH), Camping, Hiking, Facebook, Videography, Photography, Building and Repairing Computers. Music he likes includes The Beatles, Eagles, ABBA, TSO, Mannheim Steamroller, Neil Diamond, Elvis. One of Gary's favorite quotes is:"Enjoy the little things, for you may one day look back and realizes they were the big things. When I say...."I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean living’", I'm whispering "I was lost," Now I'm found and forgiven. When I say...."I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need CHRIST to be my guide. When I say...."I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need HIS strength to carry on. When I say...."I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean up my mess. When I say...."I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect, my flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it. When I say...."I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain, I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name. When I say...."I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow.". I retired from Pacific Telephone/Pacific Bell/SBC/AT&T after almost 40 years. I am a laid-back, easy going grandpa type that enjoys life.".

Yes, my new drone has cruise control. While moving the joysticks to fly, I just tap a button on the bottom of the controller and let go of the sticks, and it continues to fly in that direction. I can still steer
