Briefly, I got hired by then Southern Bell, subsequently BellSouth and currently AT&T, and spent 35 years there. I began as a tech and ended as a Service Consultant, a glorified title for a glorified tech with more responsibilities. I climbed phone poles and dug holes. I installed and removed phones for customers in the old days and wrote databases and voice mail systems for phone systems in more recent days ironically for the Broward County School Board. I trained customers on their newly installed phone systems in many schools in Broward County, Florida. I retired in December of 2007. I lump-summed my retirement dollars into a couple of 401ks in January of 2008. By the end of 2008, I lost over half of it and have yet to break even.
