Gary's Story

Briefly, I got hired by then Southern Bell, subsequently BellSouth and currently AT&T, and spent 35 years there. I began as a tech and ended as a Service Consultant, a glorified title for a glorified tech with more responsibilities. I climbed phone poles and dug holes. I installed and removed phones for customers in the old days and wrote databases and voice mail systems for phone systems in more recent days ironically for the Broward County School Board. I trained customers on their newly installed phone systems in many schools in Broward County, Florida. I retired in December of 2007. I lump-summed my retirement dollars into a couple of 401ks in January of 2008. By the end of 2008, I lost over half of it and have yet to break even. So basically, I retired, tried to sell my home in south Florida, and then find work in what I refer to as the "perfect storm" of the worst ti...Expand for more
me to do any of those things since the great depression of the 1930s. What luck huh? I am on my third marriage and am very happy. I finally sold my home in April of 2009 and walked away with practically nothing. We rented in Tamarac, Florida for over a year and we finally got out September 27, 2010 and relocated to Aberdeen, NC. I have two sons from my second marriage, Gary Jr 29, and Scott 22. Scott enlisted in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Cognac or Jack Daniels single barrel with a good cigar does wonders for me. In 10 years, I hope to be loaded with money. I'm going to get there by sheer luck and a lot of praying. If I won $100 million, I'd give 20% of it to my church, then spend the rest on a refurbished '69 Goat (GTO to those of you who don't know what that means), a huge-ass old house to turn into a B&B and a whole lotta good beer.

I found this US Army recruiting ad in an antique store some time back and it struck my patriotic side so I purchased it. It came out of some magazine in the late 1940s, sometime after WWII. I find the title of this ad, "The
My dad, Richard F Tucek. He served towards the end of WWII. He's been gone a long time now, since 1981, and I miss him terribly. Love you dad.
