Gary's Story
After high school i went to UWS for two years. did a lot of partying, drinking, and skipping classes. dropped a few classes also. realized that my antics were hurting my parents financially. made a life changing decision. volunteered for the army. went into armor (tanks) and thanks to gary v. for that nudge. after deciding that i didn't want to be all i could be, i left the army with an honorable discharge. came home and got married. we spent one year in duluth then went to SW wisconsin so that i could finish my BS degree in Safety. got hired by a steel mill in NW indiana. we moved to valparaiso indiana. spent six wonderful years in that town and six yea...Expand for more
rs in hell at work. knew the steel mill wouldn't survive, so i started looking for a new job. tried to get hired by morton thiokol in utah. they made the booster rockets for the challenger. ya you can see this one coming can't you. the challenger space shuttle blew up before i could get out there. never did hear from them. mother-in-law saw an add for a job in minnesota for me. applied and they were looking for someone with molten metal experience, i had it, they were crazy enough to hire me. then after working for 26 years i retired from minnesota osha. retirement is fantastic. wish i had retired sooner. hope all of the class of '72 is doing well. gary a.
