Gary's Story

Did the Army for 20+ years in Germany for over 12, plus one in Viet Nam (all very exciting . . . LOL) Did 16+ driving around in circles for Everett Transit (I'm still dizzy) Spent many years traveling in Europe and researching for a novel since 1999. Visited much of Western Europe, the old East Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Russia. My novel, "The 5K Zone," was published on 1 Nov 15. This fiction novel tells the story of Peter Ackerman and Trudi Kehle as their German ethnicity and circumstance subject them to family deaths, personal threat, and an existence that we as 1955 EHS grads didn't have a clue about. expulsion of ethnic Germans from the formerly Nazi-controlled Sudetenland borderland section of Czechoslovakia. As a displaced person in Snoqualmish, WA (Everett), Peter struggles to become part of the mainstream student body because of the complete difference in background and his goal of returning to his Czechoslovakian home to search for his parents. Trudi, a childhood friend. becomes his partner in realizing his life-long objective. The story climaxes with the ingenious and suspenseful escape from Czechoslovakia for Peter and Trudi by one method and for Trudi's mother by another. Now available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kindle, Nook, and IPAD.
