Married Meridel Pettyjohn of KC, MO in Bad Godesberg, Germany in April 1973 when I was doing field research for my PhD dissertation as a grad student from Georgetown Univ. Meridel worked in DC as a management analyst/engineer for the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the Dept. of Commerce., retired 31 dec 2019
2 sons: Gary L. Jackson II born 10 Dec 1977 at Fort Huachuca AZ. Gary graduated 1999 from Univ of MD in computer science and worked for years at the Institute for Advanced Computing Studies. Gary completed PhD in computer science 2015. is married with 2 kids.
Younger son Thomas Jonathan born 18 April 1979 in Wiesbaden, Germany when I was stationed there with the US Army's 8th Infantry Division. Thomas is married with one child.
School:
Because my dad was in the Army and we moved around a lot, I changed schools some 17 times between 1st grade and 9th grade before finally settling down at MacArthur HS in San Antonio in September 1961.
Graduated 1965 MacArthur HS, San Antonio, TX about nr. 50 in a class of about 550.
But that's okay - I earned a PhD, and I bet most of those graduating ahead of me did not.
College
Earned my doctorate in Government some 16 years after I started in 1969 at Georgetown Univ., Washington, DC on a fellowship. Completed my dissertation and got the degree in 1985 when I was on active duty with the US Army at Ft Hood, TX.
PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) -- Government, Georgetown University, Washington, DC. University Fellow (scholarship). Assistant to Professor Jeane Kirkpatrick (later she became Reagan Administration U.S. Ambassador to United Nations). Field research in Germany on political-economic groups for doctoral dissertation: Interest Group Politics and Neocorporatism in West Germany -- The Case of the Federal Association of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (1985).
