Gary's Story
Greetings to "old" friends!
Marilyn, my partner of over 40 years, and I live in Elgin, IL. We still own our family lake house at Lime Lake, south of Delevan, NY on NYS Route 16, with my sister Gail and her husband John Erdmann. We don't get there nearly often enough, but plan to spend at least a week or two there annually.
Our daughter Anne (RN with Pediatric Neurology practice) and her husband Michael Castro (IT Recruiter) have two lovely daughters, Mia (10 y.o.) and Isabel (6 y.o.). Both are soccer stars, and better yet, they only live 15 minutes away. ;-)
After graduating from Clarence Central H.S. in 1968, I had a Navy ROTC scholarship to Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago where I joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity, participated in student government, and was a member of the Navy ROTC Honor Guard, rifle and pistol teams. After two years I transferred to Cornell University where I continued my affiliation with Delta Tau Delta fraternity, played French horn with the Cornell Orchestra, sang with the Sage Chapel Choir, was active with the Jordani Natural History Society (the "Critter Club"), and gave unofficial tours of the legendary "Brain Room" in the attic of Stimson Hall. I graduated with a BS from Cornell in 1972. I obtained an MBA in Systems Management from De Paul University in 1981.
After graduating from Cornell, Marilyn and I married and moved ...Expand for more
to Rochester, NY. Since then we've been rather mobile, living in Chicago, IL; Roanoke, VA; Coral Springs, FL; and several suburbs of Chicago.
Over the years I've worked as a Systems Analyst, Project Manager, and Consultant, initially in banking operations and systems at Marine Midland, First Federal of Chicago, Dominion Bank, and Citibank U.S. & Latin America. While at Citibank I specialized in call center operations and technology, and have been working in this field the past 20 years.
I am currently a Sr. Call Center Service Consultant at Thomson Reuters, establishing call centers around the world in support of Thomson Reuters' information based lines of business (news, editorial, photo, legal, trademark, medical, tax, accounting, etc.).
In my spare time I volunteer with the City of Elgin as Chairman of the Sustainability Commission which developed a Sustainability Master Plan for the city, and administers various sustainability initiatives and grants.
My hobbies include: Our granddaughters; classic 50s, 60s and 70s rock, blues, classical and swing music listening; amateur photography, especially of vintage sports car racing, vintage aircraft and "warbirds"; boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking; and traveling for business and pleasure.
I'd love to hear from friends, classmates, band mates, fraternity brothers and other acquaintances!
Best regards, Gary
