Gaye's Story
Life
I've been living in San Diego since 1982. We have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. I retired in February 1999 and my husband retired in 2004. We are enjoying our leisure time, doing some traveling and spending time with the grandchildren. I also volunteer in the gift shop of the hospital where I worked for 15 yrs. It is fun now to go to "work". Life is good!
Update: 10/2015 - My husband passed away in July 2012, just two months after a diagnosis of an uncommon disease that is very difficult to diagnose; amyloidosis. By the time he was diagnosed the disease had compromised his heart, liver and kidneys. His life would have been terribly bleak had he lived and the doctors told me it was a blessing that he went as quickly as he did. I'm getting accustomed to my new normal, still volunteering at the hospital gift shop and have even done some traveling. I've always looked at the glass being 1/2 full and that has helped me in my journey.
Update 8/2018: I've decided to sell my home and move into a condo not far from one of my daughters...Expand for more
, still staying in San Diego. I'll be giving up my volunteering at the hospital gift shop as I'm moving out of my neighborhood and am excited about spreading my wings and making new memories. Drop me a line and say hello :)
PS , 2019, I’m now volunteering again at a hospital not far from my new place. I have no regrets about the move and am doing well.
To the TJHS alumni - I would have graduated Jeff in 1961 but moved to Queens in 1957. It would be fun to connect with folks from the old Brooklyn neighborhood who might remember me. I lived on Wyona St. between Dumont and Livonia.
Update 10/2023: Upon turning 80, I began to think about my future, which I hope will be at least another 20 good years. I’m not ready to finish the book. For my next chapter, I’m leaving San Diego behind after 41 years and moving to a retirement community in Northridge (Los Angeles, and will be about a mile from my youngest daughter. My oldest grand lives in LA and he’s over the moon that grandma is moving and will be closer to him. A new adventure awaits!
