Gayle's Story
Life
After graduation from North Texas, I went to New Mexico to teach & met my husband, Larry. He became a school principal, & we lived in several small NM towns, each of our 3 children being born in a different town, never where we were living because there was no doctor! We lived in tiny Thoreau, NM, for 11 yrs. That's where our kids grew up and where I acquired a great love for the Navajo. Most of my students there were Navajo. NM, I feel I have 2 home states, & I definitely have kids scattered everywhere--Josh and family in TX, Seretha & family in NM, and Jenn & family in Florida. When I retired, I took classes in interpreting for the deaf and interpreted at Bible study for deaf/blind friends, but after moving back to NM, I've not had the chance to use it as much.
In 2007 we returned to New Mexico, expecting to enjoy many years with Seretha & her family. However, the next year Larry developed a brain tumor and died two days after Thanksgiving 2008.
My days now are filled with travel, family, and God-related activities. I also adopted two dogs from the animal shelter, and trying to get them trained has been both challenging & fun.
