Gayle's Story
I have been married to Terry Guthrie for 42 years in July 2012. We were married July 3, 1970. He had recently gotten back from Viet Nam when I met him at Steak N Shake in Lakeland FL. We dated for one year before getting married. He was 21 and I was 18 (way too young to get married).
My grandmother who had raised me from 3 days old lived with my husband and me from the day we got married until she passed away in October 2001 at the age of 92. She was a wonderful unselfish woman who never interfered in our marriage.
We were married for 5 years before we had our beautiful daughter, Angela, on December 2, 1975. She is now married to a wonderful man, Shane, who works for FedEx. They have two beautiful girls, Lindsey 15, and Kara 12. They also have 4 dogs.
I have had 22 dogs since high school (not all at the same time) and currently have 3. I donate money to Best Friends in Kanub, Utah, SPCA, and the Humane Society because I believe animals are wonderful and loving. My daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters share my love of animals (dogs specifically).
I was very insecure in high school and not very outgoing but have certainly changed since. I wish I could go back and be who I am now.
I went back to college when I was 34 and graduated at 38. I have been a teacher for Polk County for 21 years and hopefully will be retiring in 2012.
The past 42 years have gone by so fast that I can't believe how old I am and I don't like it one bit.

o is my grandmother. She raised me and worked whatever jobs she had to take to take care of her mother and me. She never complained about working long hours. I lost her in 2001 and miss her so-o-o very much. She would always do without in order to provide for others. I wish I hadn't been the typical ungrateful teenager and showed her more gratitude and compassion.
When she was in her 80's she always told me that she felt like a young person trapped in an old body and when she looked in the mirror, it didn't look like how she felt. Now I understand how she felt.
My current age is 60. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be just old grandparents . I was so completely wrong about a lot of things..
My first job was at Graybar Electric, where I got paid $350 per month to type invoices and file.. What I remember most about it is we had a kitchen in the office and cooked for everyone. It was great..
My final job was a teacher. I am retiring because I tripped over a parking curb in 2004 and shattered my right kneecap. I have had 5 surgeries since then, my most recent being a knee replacement in March 2012. I am retiring to do a lot of rehab so I can walk again and also because the students in today's schools are unruly, disrespectful, and the school system expects too much from teachers without the pay that is deserved. I am going to concentrate on my family and just enjoying life in general.
I hope people remember me as being a nice person.
