Gene's Story
Life
I currently live in Brentwood,California.(Northern California).Gretchen and I have been married for twenty-five years. I have a daughter from previous marriage ,Alison age 31. She is a graduate from my Alma Mater,San Diego State. She is married to a great guy named Tim and is fortunate to be a stay at home mom. Our beautiful grandaughter Julia just celebrated her seventh birthday. Our youngest daughter ,Ashley age 24, graduated from Norther Arizona University and works for Scripps Hospital as a Clinical Researcher. We are extremely proud of both of our daughters. Gretchen is a successful Vice Principal at Bristow Middle School in Brentwood. She is an highly regarded and loved educator.
I have been in education for over thirty five years now. In fact, most of the time it feels like I never left high school. My claim to fame was that I was principal of Liberty High School in Brentwood for ten years. Currently ,I am at the district office as an Assistant Superintendent. After a thirty year break ,and as part of my mid life crisis, I got back into running. I've run several 5k and 10k races. On April 21'2008 I ran in the Boston Marathon. It was an incredible experience. Not too much competition in my age group! Also, I've started to sing again as a part of our church choir and at several l...Expand for more
ocal community events. I love to sing the standards and ballads. One of my great memories was singing at Alison's and Tim's wedding.
Although there have been many trying times since San Marcos High,I have been blessed with a wonderful wife,a loving family, and great friends.
One of those trying times was in 1996 ,I suffered a heart attack. I was down and out for over three months. On December 13th 2008, I fell from our two story roof while putting up Christmas lights. I had eight broken ribs, broken collar bone, and my right lung collapsed due to two puncture wounds.En route to the hospital the paramedic had to administer CPR to bring me back. I was on life support for three days. I have been blessed by God once again. My wife, daughters and friends have been wonderful throughout these ordeals.
On a positive note,I am humbled and honored to be selected Brentwood's Citizen Of The Year. Please search thepress.net for my story on January 30th, 09.
Take care.
