More about Gene:"After High School I worked for U.S. Steel for a while then left for employment with the State of Alabama Highway Department where I worked as a Design Draftsman in the Final Estimates section untill leaving in 1977 to work for the Frisco Railroad as a brakeman/switchman. I have since been promoted to conductor and Locomotive Engineer during the Burlington Northern era. I am currently a Locomotive Engineer working in long pool with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad out of Birmingham. I am currently a Member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainman.
During the 1970s I completed First Aid training thru the American Red Cross and became Instructor qualified and later became a Instructor Trainer where I taught numerous classes around Birmingham and North Alabama. ...Expand for more
This lead to first part-time and later full time employment with the local Ambulance Services. I worked primarily with A&A Ambulance but did also work with Hank's Ambulance from the mid 1970s up thru the late 1980s. Emergency Medical Technician training courses were completed in the early 1970s at both UAB and Bessemer Tech. I also volunteered with the Minor Heights Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT for several years. The late 1980s brought an end to the EMS field when the railroad became a full time obligation. I've been a model railroader and collector since the early 1970s. The collection is now up to 50 Diesel locomotives, 8 steam locomotives, 30+ passenger cars both streamline and heavyweights and 250+ freight cars, I've lost count. I also have an incomplete but operational 2-Rail O Scale Layout, it operates on either DC power or DCC control. An operational signal system is the current hot project along with DCC control and Sound for the locomotives.".
