Gene's Story
After graduating in 1969 I traveled Texas & New Mexico the next few months working on construction projects until I entered the US Navy for four years. In that time I studied Aviation Electronics and worked on the weapons system of the F-4J Phantom, serving on the Air craft Carrier USS Constellation CVA 64. We were based at NAS Miramar, close to San Diego, CA; home ported at San Diego and made two nine month cruises off the coast of Vietnam. It was during the second cruise that I met and married Felicitas in the Philippines. After returning to the US from the second cruise I had fulfilled my commitment to the USN Oct 1973.
Fely & I moved to Hurst, TX where I reentered the construction trade. April 1974 Melvin Gene III (Mel) our son made his appearance. Not long after that we made our way to Amarillo, Tx. I continued to work as a carpenter and eventually started my own home remodeling business. 1975 brought us a daughter Jinnifer Analissa.

w good economic years in those days but we were happy in our work and church. Late 1989 the Lord called Fely home to be with Him and I became MR Mom for the next few years until Mel & Jinnifer graduated from West Texas Christian School. And me? I made good on the threat I had made many times, to run away from home. In 1992 I had started working part time with missionary families out of our Church. The fall of 1998 I met and married (Sandy)Phyllis West Glover after being widowed for 9 years. Sandy had been widowed for 4 years and had two married sons. Today we have a total of nine grand kids ranging from 18-6. We have been serving in the country of Venezuela since about 2000 as Baptist missionaries. During this time we took off about a year to attend a linguistics school and better prepare for the work ahead of us.
The work here in the heart of Venezuela is challenging to say the least but the rewards are far greater.
