Genevera's Story

Life I have moved around quite a bit. I have 1 son, 37 years old, 2 grand children, and 1 cat. My mom still lives in Sacramento. I retired from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles March 1, 2005, after 27 years of employment. I was one of many who really cared about the problems customers were having. I am a licensed Cosmetologist since 1967. I moved to Melbourne, FL in October 2005. Just in time for hurricane Wilma. Quite an experience. We were told to evacuate. My friend and I went to Titusville, FL. The Holiday Inn where we stayed is directly across the river from Kennedy Space Center. We watched the storm from the safety (we hoped) of our room. WOW, I had never seen lightening like that! The wind blew with a vengance! The rain wasn't satisfied with being outside. So, the wind blew it into our room through the small slit where door meets door jam. I love it here. The birds seen in our yards and around the pond are Ibis, robins, great herons, egrets, white cranes, sandhill cranes and some very interesting ducks. There are turtles in the pond. They can be seen sunning themselves. Lots of Gecos. They are every where. They can keep the fire ants. I've had a couple of run-ins with them. It' not pleasant. I'm in an active adult community and own a double-wide manufactured home. My days are busy. They are filled with luncheons, dominoes, Phase 10 and good friends. Some days we go to the beach (just 10 minutes away). Othertimes are spent reading or working on the current craft project. I crochet, knit, sew, and work in my little garden when the heat is not too bad. There are also luncheons with the Red Hat group. I have been to...Expand for more
the Bahamas and will be cruising the western Carribean in January 2008. There is also a travel group within the community. We usually take day trips but there was a two day trip to Miami. We went on a tour of the bay and saw homes some well known people. My husband passed away in 2001 as did my dad. I miss them both very much. Ziggy, my cat is a lot of company. She is quite a character. The squirrels come to visit her when she is in her sun room. There are a couple other ladies that moved here from California. Some of the people in the community decided they were being invaded when I moved here. They want to know why I decided to move here. That's easy. . . lower cost of living and no yearly state tax. My transportation is a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker. It' yellow with black trim. I call it my Bumblebee. My life has taken me to a few places. I have lived in Killeen, TX, San Diego, CA, Marrietta, GA, Eau Gallie, FL, Anaheim, CA, and now Melbourne, FL. There were years when I lived in Sacramento mixed in. My son was born is Sacramento and now lives in Klamath Falls, OR with his wife and children. That is some of what I have been up to since I graduated in 1965. I forgot to mention that I can see the launches from my front porch. When the Endeavor landed this time, I felt and heard the two sonic booms that occur just before touchdown. _August, 2008 Well, I made it through FAY. This was only a tropical storm. The damage done by the floods caused by 26.25 inches of rain in a little less than 2 days is horrible. It reminds me of some of the worst floods Sacramento ever had since I was born. Quite an experience to say the least.
