Geoff's Story
Life
My brilliant and beautiful spouse and daughter and I have ceased living in Manhattan. We made it through the subway series and, despite living about a 1/2 mile from the WTC, the terrorist attacks. My second year in law school I lived in the same bldg. as Alan Dershowitz. This has made it harder to claim that I won't be a slimy lawyer--proximity puts an end to all illusions. After law school I returned to NYU Law to begin a teaching fellowship with my hero and mentor Professor Derrick Bell (get his new book!). My family and I have returned to Renton where I now work for a health care union. On April 10, 2005 we expanded the family by one, with the arrival of a beautiful new baby girl!
I miss a few of the people I went to school with back in the day, and hope you all are doing well.
School
Waited awhile. Went to Evergreen and earned my certificate in Labor Studies. Waited another long while. Then I went to the UW, where I got my BA in PoliSci, and essentially a minor in Labor Studies. Finished there and off to New York to go to law school.

If I had my way, I would be a permanent student attending classes at the law school in the Village. But life isn't always fair.
Workplace
Right now I am working back in Renton as an attorney for the biggest (and best) health care union around. My last job was at my alma mater, NYU Law, where I served as the Derrick Bell Fellow in Constitutional Law. I worked with Professor Bell in teaching, managing the work of 13 TAs, and I also got to read a lot of constitutional law. My office overlooked Washington Square Park, which was rather distracting, to say the least (especially the dog run).
I have worked with kids at the Boys and Girls Club; with adults with developmental disabilities; as a staffer at the Center for Labor Studies at the UW; as a union organizer; as a researcher for an appraiser; as a grocery clerk. I did death penalty appellate work in Alabama; have worked for Starbucks in their legal department; worked at a very big law firm for a very short time; worked as a grocery clerk for a very long time; and I am sure I am leaving out a couple of jobs.
