George's Story
Not much to tell.
Had a Hawk missile platoon on the German border and a Chaparral missile battery on the Korean border.
Left active component of army in 1986. Married Alabama girl named Debra Morrow. Had little girl named Mamie Lucille, for her great grandmother Mamie Johnson in Alabama and grandmother Lucile Adams in Ohio. (I know I spelled the "L" name two different ways. My mom was told all her life that she was spelling her name wrong, so we figured it would be easier for Mamie if we went along with the crowd.)
Got invited back to active duty for Global War on Ter...Expand for more
ror (now renamed "Overseas Contingency" or "How to Apologize for Being American" or something like that). Arrived over there less than 24 hours before the shooting started in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Got sent home when Mamie diagnosed with cancer. She died two years later. Would have turned 7 on Father's Day that year.
