George's Story
Life
Retired Air Force Sergeant now living in southern Florida. I have my own business, 1 daughter (23) in college and my own home on a lake front property. Life is great.
Military
I was first drafted into the military in 1971, went to basic in January 1972. Scheduled to go to Vietnam was diverted at the last minute to a mountain top in northeastern Turkey along the former Soviet border. After returning to the states 13 months later was assigned to Ft Hood texas where I was assigned as aid to the Brigade Commander, Col John P. Casey until discharge from the Army. I remained a civilian until 1981 when at the request of then President Reagan I re-entered the military, this time in the US Air Force. I was first assigned to a tactical flight control squadron between Bremerhaven Germany and Hamburg. ommunications team in the underground Command Center. I served directly for Gen. Larry Welch, Gen John T. Chain, and Gen. Larry Butler. I oversaw the stand down of the Strategic Air Command on June 1 1992 and assisted in the birth of a new Command, the United States Strategic Command. While at Strategic Air Command I saw temporary duty in Diego Garcia during the reflagging operations of the Kuwaiti oil tankers and again in Rhiyad, Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Desert Storm providing real time tactical and strategic secure communications between the National Military Command Authority, the White House and the Commander in Chief of Central Command. In 1993 I was reassigned to Central Command at MacDill AFB, Fl where I served until my retirement in October 1994. I am proud of the contribution I made to the security of this great nation and am proud to have been an integral part in maintaining peace and freedom for the American people.
