George's Story
After High School I enlisted in the Army for 3 years, just to get it over with. The next thing I know it was 20 years later, so I retired. I had flown helicopters & airplanes in the Army so I looked for pilot jobs after retiring. I got lucky and was hired by American Airlines. I flew for them until 2003 when I took early retirement. My wife and I moved from Texas to northern Idaho, where she had grown up.
I worked a few more years part time flying helicopters in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. Then after 40 some years I'm currently unemployed, some folks call it retirement.
My wife and I both love living in Idaho, four gentle seasons. The winters are nothing like I remembered in Champaign when I was growing up. The summers...Expand for more
are also much more pleasant than Illinois and Texas. Our 90 degree days are very limited and rarely have humidity.
We enjoy motorcycles, hiking, camping, small RV, no more tents, or golf for either of us. When we need a get away in the winter we visit the kids scattered out in the southern state, Nevada, Texas, and Alabama. UPDATE...February 2023 we're still on the sunny side of the dirt. Sold our house in Idaho when the market went crazy and plan to full time RV for a couple years while we see if we can find anywhere we like better. Traded the motorcycle for a Jeep and do quite a bit of off road Jeeping with a couple different clubs. Though I'd better give up the motorcycle before some idiot on their phone ran me over.
