George's Story
My first year in San Pedro, when school started I did many things. I played in the marching band, ran cross country and track, charter member of Squires and was in several other clubs including KEY Club.
I needed money so I worked at Ft. MacArthur all through high school. First at the commissary. The Officer's Club hired me-first as a busboy/waiter and soon after promoted to maitre d'. What I remember most about working there is serving Gen.Omar Bradley and Gen. Colin Powell, his helicopter landed on the lawn by the club.
I didn't expect hotel banquet and catering would become a career. I was banquet captain for the Princess Louise. I opened the first Residence Inn in Torrance-wrote the handbook for them . Now they're across the nation! Next I opened the Carson Ramada and then I opened the L.A. Harbor Sheraton (now the Crown Plaza) in San Pedro.
I have served most CEO's of major corporations, Kissinger, the Bush presidents and family, Betty Ford, politicians, ambassadors, actors, rock stars, superstars, and athletes. My career highlight was "opening team" at Disney's California Adventure in 2001.Several life changes caused me to decide to leave Southern Cal.

I left Yorba Linda and Disney and moved to Redding, 2002, CA. In 2006, I moved to Milpitas.
I did a career change when I moved to Redding. Tested and became Instructional para-professional with youths at risk or court ordered for Shasta County Off. of Ed...in their high schools. Now, I work for MUSD at Rancho Middle School. I mainstream SpEd students.
With better hours I've had time to play tennis and win a men's singles/ doubles championship-Shasta Open, The Nor Cal USTA Championships and a few runner up. I still bicycle and run, but most of all I like spending time on the beach in Santa Cruz. I guess I never have forgotten Cabrillo Beach or Royal Palms.
Since then I have gotten re-married, still play tennis everyday, ride a motorcycle, spend too much time on FB, the usual stuff and more. Our "happy place" is Santa Cruz. We try to spend 1 weekend a month, sometimes a week, at Seacliff RV State Park of course that includes our traditional Christmas Eve prime rib dinner "on the beach."
I've been to my 30th and 40th high school reunions and remember how special they all were in my HS years. I'm blessed to have a wonderful family, home life and career. Life is good, after all.
