George's Story
Life
I entered the US Air Force on August 21, 1959, and served 20 + years on active duty. During my Air Force career, I served 2 tours of duty in Alaska, 2 tours in California, 2 tours in Texas, 1 tour in Florida and 1 tour in Japan. I met my wife in April of 1961 and we were married on June 22, 1963. Barbara is and was a "Military Brat", and we both enjoyed all of the traveling we did while I was on active duty. We have 5 children and 3 really swell Grand Children. Our oldest daughter (Karla) was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, Kari was next and she was born in Anchorage, Alaska, Paul was born in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and the Twins (Ron & Rob) were born in Tokyo, Japan.
During the time I spent in the military, I earned a B.S. degree in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University. I went back to school when I retired and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Oklahoma City University.
I retired from the Air Force on September 1, 1979, and relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I was employed by the University of Oklahoma in their teaching hospital from October 1979 through April of 1987. My position with the hospital was Chief of Pulmonary Services and Critical care.
In 1987 I was hired by the U.S. Immigration Service as an immigration Inspector. I have served in a variety of positions and locations during my time with INS and with CBP. We became U. S. Customs and Border protection in March of 2003 when we merged with Customs an...Expand for more
d Agriculture under the Department of Homeland Security. I have served in Oklahoma, Atlanta, Dallas, Guam, Miami,Houston and 2 tours in Nassau. I am currently assigned as the Area Port Director for US Customs and Border protection in Nassau, The Bahamas.
My wife was also employed by US Immigration, and she served for 27 years before she retired this past January. Barbara worked in Deportation, Information and several other positions in her career.
We have been in the Bahamas since February, and are planning to be here for at least 5 years. Our "game Plan" is to try to get an assignment in Florida, serve the minimum time and then I will retire. When I have finished with CBP, I will have served a total of 47 years with the Federal Government in one capacity or another.
My wife and I are looking forward to attending the Perry High School Class Reunion in September. This will be a first for me, as I was out of the country for all of the reunions that have been held to date. I have been in touch with some of my classmates, and the more people I speak with the more excited I get about the reunion.
I am going to have some photo's taken and will add some "Then and Now" photo's to this BIO as soon as I can. I look forward to seeing and talking with all of you in September. I have written a book titled "Curve Balls From Above" and my whole wonderful life stoty is in that book. I woudl ask that anyone who attended Perry High Buy, Read and enjoy it
