George's Story
High School was not a great experience for me. I had a few friends, but not many. I really was a misfit; I lacked self-confidence and the social graces to fit in. I was never so happy it was over in 1974.
I was such a boneheaded jerk in HS (sorry folks). Rest assured I am a different person.
I was a gear-head and spent most of my time in Power Mechanics and Shop. I drove a nasty car, but had a cool chopper back then. After High School, I had a tremendous spiritual awakening, and surrendered my life to God and His plan for me. I spent time in the military, and married a great girl in 1979. I worked in the building trades while attending Allegheny Community College.
My wife and I moved to Kansas City, Mo where we became house parents at a home that specialized in helping children who were sexually abused. We later moved to Springf...Expand for more
ield, Mo to finish our education. At age 36 I finally graduated with a BA, and became a minister serving several congregations. (I finally found my place in life)
The last 20 years have been the most rewarding of my life. I would not trade them for anything. I have started a master¿s program and put it on hold. My fantastic wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Caring for her has become my top priority.
We have two adult sons. They are wonderful young men and my wife and I could not be more proud of them. We now live in Camp Hill, PA (we returned to PA in 1994).
I currently work as a Director of Education for a major denomination. One of the highlights of my life is directing camps for kids. This past year we had 2,650+ kids go through our camps and retreats. I love seeing lives changed.
Who knew life could be this great?
