George's Story
Immediately after graduating from Willow Glen High School in San Jose, California, I embarked on a world tour. I did not get very far. I arrived in Mexico City and in the next year was married. I lived in Mexico for a while, attended school there and returned to San Jose. There I raised five daughters and was divorced after 22 years of marriage. During that time, I lived in the Willow Glen area but did not see too many of my classmates. My daughters attended Willow Glen High School and all graduated from that school.
Having a background and education in art, I started an advertising agency in the 80s, later sold it to a Japanese company, worked for them for five years, and then went on my own again in Silicon Valley with a media communications company during the 90s. ...Expand for more
That company took a hit in the dot com melt down in 2000 and I decided I had enough of that life and left the Bay Area for northern California.
While traveling in Russia in 2000, I met a wonderful young woman and fell in love. We married in 2001 and left the Bay Area the next year. We finally ended in Mendocino County and bought a home on a mountain near a little community. It is quiet, restful and the view is incredible.
Leaving the Bay Area did not mean I retired. Far from it. I started a new business (NaturalPigments.com) supplying rare artists¿ supplies that I import from many different and far-flung places of the world. I also founded a nonprofit organization (Iconofile.com) that provides art education about traditional painting techniques for sacred visual art.
