George's Story
Although I was born and raised in Conneaut I have not been there but a handful of times since leaving in 1964. I attended K-12th grade with the Class of 1964 and should have graduated with them but because of my rowdiness and poor class attendance I ended up with 15.25 credits instead of the required 16 credits to graduate. I enrolled in summer school to make up the credit but an opportunity to go to California with two friends presented itself and I took it. I stayed in Anaheim, CA for a year and then joined the Army in 1965. The following year I got married and once I got settled down (I was kind of rebellious in my younger days) I started thinking about furthering my education. Although I had taken the GED I still wanted to graduate from the High School I had attended from 7th-12th grades so I wrote to Mr Macmillan and he hooked me up with Mrs Yohe who helped me enroll in two Carnegie correspondence courses for which I completed the requirements for 11th Grade English and received my diploma from Conneaut High in 1972. (I was hoping my diploma would indicate 1964 as the graduation year, however, the diploma the Principal (Mr Colson) sent me was for the then current 1972 year. I apologize to the class of 1972 as I know this must drive them crazy trying to figure out who I am.) We had three children during my first marriage and we divorced in 1981 after returning from a second tour (7 years total) in Germany. I got married again in 1982 and had two more boys during this second marriage. In 1985, I retired from the Army at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Three (CW3) after 20 years of active duty service with...Expand for more
the Nike Hercules and Patriot Missile Systems. During my time in the Army I continued my education obtaining an AA Degree in Education from El Paso Community College in 1974, a BS Degree in Management from Park College in 1982, and an MA Degree in Management/Human Resources Development from Webster University in 1984. After retiring from the Army in 1985 I went to work for a Defense Contractor in El Paso, TX and again went back to school and completed a BS Degree in Computer Science from Park University in 1989. In 1995, I started my own Defense Contracting business which I ran for 15 years. In 2011 I closed Osborne Technologies, Inc. and took a position with SPARTA-PARSONS where I finally retired on 8 January 2016 (just short of my 70th birthday) as a Principal Test Engineer supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Program Office which I supported since 1992. I have lived in Huntsville, AL since 1987 and I have 5 children and 11 grandchildren. I enjoy family, golf, travel, riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle, cruising around in my 1999 Plymouth Prowler and of course spending time with my grandchildren. If any of you from the class of 1964 find yourself in this area of the country please look me up, I would really enjoy seeing you again. I have been attending the '64 Class Reunion in Conneaut these last few years and hope to continue to do so again once Covid-19 is under control. Attending the Reunion is something I look forward to since its my only opportunity to reminisce with the kids I grew up with. Hopefully I'll see some of you around town while I'm there.
