George's Story
Life
Hi Gang;
Well, went to L.A. State College for a year and got tired of studying. Decided to wait awhile before getting serious. Went to work for Von's in Reseda until 1963, when I joined the army to get out of the rut. Had a delightful time there. Was an intelligence analyst for 2 1/2 years in Panama and then was attached to the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires for a year. What a year! No uniforms, apartment in downtown, on perdiem so I earned more than I could spend, AND SINGLE! That year really broadened me (no pun intended!). Not wanting to make a career of the army, I left after 4 1/2 yrs. of active duty and decided I'd like to travel for a couple of years before getting serious, so I started working for Varig Brazilian Airlines at the airport (LAX) in 1968....Expand for more
I was there for 5 yrs. and then transferred into the sales department. I guess I never really got serious because I stayed and took early retirement in Dec. of 2001. They hired me back part-time and I'm now working 5 hours/day, 3 days a week. Love the 4-day weekends! In 1969 I met an Argentine girl who had come here to learn English and we were married in 1970. We're still married and, in the meantime Graciela (my wife) went to school and earned her bachelors, masters and doctorate in Psychology. She got her license to practice and is now on staff at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks, where we live (not at the burn center). I have had time now to read to my heart's content. Just read a good one by John Saul. Hiya John - keep 'em coming. That's it.
