George's Story
It's almost unbelievable that I have lived in California for 42 years now. I moved from Maryland to CA in 1971.
I worked for General Motors at the Fremont Assembly plant until February, 1973. I then joined the Alameda County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff. I worked in various divisions: Bailiffs, Marshals, Jail, and Patrol. And on various cases, such as the Hell's Angels, Black Panthers, (SLA)Symbionese Liberation Army, and Patricia Hearst. While working as a Deputy Sheriff, I became very interested in computers and data processing, as I used computers in my everyday duties. In 1983, I returned to college and received a degree in Computer Science. During my career in computers and data processing, I worked for Signetics, in Silicon Valley, as a Master Console Operator on IBM mainframe systems. I then went to work for Citibank, in Pleasant Hill, as an Operations Analyst, then Systems Programmer/Analyst, and then as an Applications Programmer/Analyst, still on IBM mainframe and PC...Expand for more
systems. After that, I worked for Safeway, in Oakland, as a Change Control Manager/Technical Analyst. I further went on to work for Wells Fargo Bank as a Systems/Applications Programmer/Analyst, working with 4th Generation languages on IBM mainframe, Unix and PC platforms. After Wells Fargo, I went to work for Charles Schwab & Co. as a Systems/Application Programmer/ Analyst on IBM mainframe, Unix and PC platforms. In 2004, I was fortunate to be able to retire from the Corporate world.
My wife, Gloria, and I have enjoyed traveling to various parts of the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Greece, Israel, Egypt and Turkey.
We have eight grandchildren, whom we enjoy very much, and spend as much time with as possible.
We live in the country outside of Ceres, CA, and have a twenty acre vineyard, on which we grow Pinot Gris wine grapes.
I now enjoy working on old classic and muscle cars, welding, working in my machine shop, and of course tending to the vineyard.
