George's Story
Life
Well everybody, basically I've been all over the world since I left Fall River in 1984. I joined the Air Force that September, and it's been non-stop since. Here's my life in brief since 84: Sep 84 - Oct 84 Air Force Basic Training, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; Oct 84 - Jun 85 Technical School, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS; Jun 85 - Oct 89 Tyndall AFB, Panama City, FL; Nov 89 - May 91 Wallace Air Station, San Fernando, La Union, Repuplic of the Philippines; May 91 - Jul 94 Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ; Jul 94 - Feb 99 Aviano Air Base, Italy; Feb 99 - Jul 02 Eielson AFB, North Pole, Alaska (yes, that's right, North Pole); Aug 02 - Apr 05 Hurlburt Field, Fort Walton Beach, FL; May 05 - May 06 Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras; May 06 - now Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Other places I've worked, visited, or just passed through: Panama, Honduras, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Germany, Azores, Austria, Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain, England, France, Netherlands, Slovenia, Greece, Scotland, Ireland, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Luxembourg, Turkey, Portugal, Belgium ... and I think there's only 4 or 5 states I haven't set foot in (have lost track). I've also flown over Cuba and Egypt, but still haven't been there. By trade I'm radar maintenance, working various Air Traffic Control systems like you'd see spinning at the airport ... they break it I fix it. Over the past few years I've been a Program Test Manager (I tested and evaluated new electronic systems such as communications, radar, homeland defense, etc., being developed for the USAF) in Florida and Chief of Maintenance for ATCALS (Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems) in Honduras. ATCALS are the folks who take care of everything at an airport that is used to control aircraft; radars, TACAN, VOR, UHF/VHF radios, weather systems, control tower equipment, etc. I've also worked counternarcotics missions in Central/South America before, aerial refueling coverage for the war in Bosnia/Yugoslavia, air defense for the Philippines and Italy, and my time in Saudi was for patrolling of the southern Iraqi No-Fly zone. From May 2006 to July 2010 I ran the base ATCALS section at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Those 4 years of Diman electronics were useful! On the personal side, I was married in 86, then happily divorced in 89. After 13 years of saying "Never Again", in Mar 02 I married a beautiful italian doctor (Roby) who I met in 94 while living in Italy (her sister was my neighbor and introduced us). She speaks great english and I speak a pretty good italian, so we should do okay. Our son Erick Howell White was born Dec 1, 2003. He loves science, math, reading, airplanes, flying, space, and the Space Shuttle. He just tested in the top 1% of all 2nd graders in his school district (about 3800 kids) and is doing geometry ... in 2nd grade! Hopefully he continues like this through school, he really loves it and is doing really well. We also had our second, a daughter, Sydney Isabelle, on April 27, 2010. She's up and into everything, going to be a troublemaker ... but on the plus side she likes reading already, so that's a good sign. I officially retired from the Air Force on October 1, 2011 after 26 years, and we moved to Colorado Springs a few months ago. Loving it so far, great place to live! We're closing on a house at the end of the month (finally!) and then it's time to find a another job and start a second career. There are tons of jobs available if you're qualified, it's just a matter of networking and finding them. Roby also wants to get back into the medicine business, so we're going to work that as well. Can't say enough how big the world out here is; i...Expand for more
f you ever get the chance to see it, don't even hesitate. There's a lot more to life than Fall River, Massachusetts!
School
I went to Lincoln for K through 2nd, Pine for 3rd and 4th, Lincoln for 5th & 6th, Kuss for 7th & 8th, then Diman for high school. The only person I remember from K through 2nd is Norm Charrette. For 3rd & 4th I remember Christine Branco, Patty Bouchard, Carol Raposa, Scott Ferry, Paula Christian, John Resendes I think, and my teachers were Ms Chmura (spelling?) for 3rd and Ms Lord for 4th. From 5th & 6th I remember Isaac Vega and Frenchie from the Home, plus Ms Tremblay & Mr Nassiff. In 7th & 8th the memory really kicks in; I remember Joey Medeiros, John Resendes, Chris Ferreira, Ana Gallego (my crush ... anybody know where she is?), Kathy Pelletier, Susan Souza, Charlene DiNucci, Beth Sherman, Wendy Wentworth, Lori Costa ... that's it off the top of my head. From Diman, man there are so many. I've kept in touch with Steve Dias, Norm Bishop, Pete Belanger, Shawn Howard, Dave Doige, Dawn Lafferty, Chris Ferreira ... would like to track down Mario Sousa. As for Mario, haven't heard from him since graduation ... I know he went into the Air Force and pretty sure he got out after 4 years. Nothing since then. Anybody know???
