George's Story

Life I graduated Saint Joseph Regional H.S. in 1968 and Newark College of Engineering (today it is New Jersey Institute of Technology) with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1972. I have been involved in the aerospace, defense, computer, semiconductor, hybrid and now medical industries through out my career. Held a top secret clearance from the US Department of Defense when I first graduated from college working on board US Destroyers and their missiles, radar, fire control systems, etc. I married Cheryl Burriello in 1973, my fraternity brother's sister. I was a TKE. Cheryl and I dated three years before we were married and we have a wonderful life together for the 49 years we have been married. We have three sons who have been our total life. Our first son Michael George. was born in Tucson, AZ in 1976. Michael completed his Ph.D.in Clinical Psychology at the Chicago Medical School. Cristina is a nurse practitioner.. They now have given us a fifth granddaughter Rio Ahkiyko in 2019. All in all we have nine grandkids. We have made friends all over the country because of my job locations have been New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, California, Massassachusetts (twice), Arizona and now Wisconsin’. I would not have the life i have if it weren’t for my wife Cheryl. She has been my whole heart and soul. I am truly lucky and a very much blessed man. Adding mine and Cheryl’s family, i was blessed to have my mom and dad. Mom Is doing well at 92 but my dad passed away in 2010 at 88, I truly miss my dad, he and i were extremely close. My brother Frank and my sisters Mary and Rose and their families have also added to the love and enjoyment to all of us. Everyone truly contributes to a special family as far s i am concerned. Today we have 9 grandkids and are fortunate to have them all living nearby... My career has taken me into aero space, defense, computers, semi conductors/hybrids, process and measurement and control industries and since 1987 the medical industry in both medical devices and the pharmaceutical arena, The medical field is where I have spent a good portion of my time since.1987. In 1987 I began working for Siemens Burdick, Inc., a medical company in Milton Wisconsin as itS Vice President of Operations and Technology. In 1992,I became its President & CEO. Siemens AG owned the company. In 1993 I bought the company from Siemens and grew the Company from $25M to $52M. I built a factory in China, sold all over the world and made many friends all over the world. It was a very rewarding experience for me. In 1997,I sold the Company and retired in 199...Expand for more
8. After retiring, I did a lot of things i have wanted to do but never had the time to actually do. In particular, fresh/salt water fishing, including fly fishing, earned a pilot's license, an instrument rating and bought a complex 200+ mile per hour airplane. Spent a lot of time with my family, especially with Matthew who grew up while I ran Burdick. I did a lot of flying, especially to see my sons in undergraduate and graduate school. In 1999 I got bored and started a firm where I invest in under-performing companies, advise in business turnaround situations and starting new companies to commercialize new technologies - technology start-ups. NorthStar Growth Partners is where i now spend most of time, helping small companies grow through organic growth from new product additions and market expansion strategies, to growth through acquisitions and help them finance all of these activities. NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes is a company that i founded with two goals, the Production of molybdenum-99 and its daughter Technetium-99m which is injected 60,000 times per day in the US Alone. NorthStar is the first and only company with FDA approval that is produced in the US and is the only company In the world that produces these products without the use of Uranium-235 and without the nasty waste associated with uranium production. Essentially, we are the only green process in the world. I put in place an outstanding technical and management team and retired from NorthStar last year. NorthStar Growth Partners is where I currently devote my attention and as i stated earlier, i am supporting small companies in pursuing growth and capital strategies to capture profitable market share growth. The isotope business is also focused developing therapeutic isotopes to treat cancers and HIV. NorthStar's 50+ US and International patents provide it with a powerful competitive advantage. To date NorthStar has received $50 million in grants from the National Nuclear Security Administration and over $120 million in investments from several private equity and individual investors. At the same time our processes eliminate the threat of nuclear proliferation because our technology does not require Highly Enriched (or weaponable) uranium-235 or uranium-233 as a raw material in our production process. In addition our production waste is so clean that the state Department of Natural Resources has allowed us to dump it down the drain. We have chosen not to do this, to assure that in no way will we contaminate the water supply. As a result, all of our waste is removed from our site by licensed waste handlers. Our fist product has received FDA approval and commercialization has begun and we have been quite successful in capturing meaningful market share. My wife Cheryl and I do a lot of traveling together, both business and pleasure, We spend a lot of time with our sons and daughters in law and now with our 9 grandchildren Kiko, Jackson George, Bennett Louis, Elisabeth Ann, Georgia Lyn, Charlee Doris, May Guadalupe, Davison and Rio.. We have truly had a great life together and I could not imagine life without her! Cheryl has truely become my best friend and most trusted confidant. This past August we celebrated our 49th Anniversary and on December 31st of 2022, it will be the 51st anniversary of our first date. Cheryl has been my everything! In addition to the activities mentioned above, I enjoy reading US History; The Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II history are a passion. Although not politically involved, I do spend a lot of time engaged politically. I have a number of friends whose company I enjoy where we share several interests on a monthly basis - specifically, cigars, scotch, good food, political philosophies, business ventures, family life, world current events, the economy and of course US politics. Through my career and all of the places that Cheryl and I have lived, we have made friends all over the world. In addition I am an avid fisherman and an instrument rated pilot. My life at St. Joes and my fraternity life in college at the TKE house has given me the good fortune of hanging around with some of the most honorable men I have met in my entire life. We always had each other's back and always respected each other. There is no doubt that along with my parents influence, my wife Cheryl's influence and the guys I went to school with, that the managerial skills I learned and have utilized quite successfully were clearly gleamed from these relationships. Aside from the expected difficulties in life such as the loss of parents, and the occasional curve balls that life throws at you, life for me and Cheryl has been nothing but fantastic. I am truly a lucky man and blessed.. I am truly grateful for the life I have and the people in my life past and present. Clearly "Life is Good!"
