He has been happily married to Lynne Hippensteel Trotter since December 1982. He is father to five children and, as of 9 Sep 16, five grandchildren. He also played clarinet in the College orchestra and tenor sax in the jazz band, He then transferred to Chapman College so as to go on World Campus Afloat in the Spring of 1968. To retain his three years of collegiate varsity basketball eligibility he remained at Chapman, graduating in 1971 with a degree in history. He later attended graduate school at Cal State Fullerton while completing a 2-year Air Force ROTC program at USC on a cross-town basis.
