Georgette's Story
55 years old and I'm back in school. Never thought that would happen, but in July, our plant closed and I didn't want to travel back to Elk Grove to work. I live in Morris and that is 60 miles each way from Elk Grove. I took my severance and decided to go to school for Medical Billing and Coding. Much more work than I remembered or just that I have a harder time retaining everything. The medical terminology was like learning to speak a new language. My daughter received her degree from Northern Illinois University, but is back to school and in the nursing program. I lost my son, granddaughter Nov 27, 2005 in a plane crash. He was 24 and my granddaughter was 3-1/2. That is one place that I hope none of you ever have to go. Life changing and rough.
I quit school after a year because I got a full-time position in July 2010. My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2011, then became part-...Expand for more
time for a few months to help him through treatments. It has been a year and I'm back to full-time work, taking 1 day at a time. God gives me the strength and the courage to face what each day brings, without him, I would have crumbled a long time ago.

Can't believe it's been 40 years, wow, who feels that old? 58 in young these days. Life has a way of changing people, sorry I didn't keep in touch with my high school friends. I moved away after graduation and easy to get lost in the shuffle. Karen Rose Pennington has been my dear friend through all these years, just haven't seen her. We keep in contact and one of these days we will get together, God willing.

Turning 70 soon, wow, where have the years gone? I didn't attend the class 50+1 reunion because l wouldn't have known anyone. Saw a few pictures and looks like a great time was had by all. Retirement is good, l do a little volunteer work.
