Attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1969 with a BS degree in Home Economics (specialty in Interior Design)
Workplace
Began working at Scarbrough's in downtown Austin, during college. After graduating from UT, I practiced Interior design until I got sick of some of the clientle I had to deal with, then turned to retail. I went back to Scarbrough's, became an Assistant Buyer in Housewares, then Buyer of the same area. I was there until late 1980, when I moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I was a Buyer at R.E. Cox, which is now Stripling and Cox Department Store. I left their employment to pursue a manager position at a new gourmet store (actually, in Aus...Expand for more
tin it was Butterfield's...you might remember)in Dallas and became the owner within a year. I expanded Butterfield's to three locations and incorporated a new concept store called "Texas Doo-Dahs", a Texas gift shop, with two locations. That lasted about five years, until the bottom fell out of the stock market in '87 and I got out of the business. I then became Buyer, in Electronics, at RadioShack in Ft. Worth and stayed there for almost nine years. I am now a Retail Planner, in the Electronics area, for Nexcom (the Navy Exchange)at their corporate headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia....a long way from Texas! I've been here for four years in April 08 and still getting used to it!
